  • HOW TO APPLY

    All applicants, whether working professionals or UA graduate students, must submit the following materials:

    • * a GCWP Application Form (opens in PDF format);
    • * an academic CV or professional resumé;
    • * a one-page statement of the applicant's background and goals in relation to water policy;
    • * past transcripts of all previous university course-work (unofficial transcripts are acceptable for your initial application, but official transcripts will be required later if you are admitted);
    • * a letter from the applicant's faculty advisor if applicant is a UA graduate student;
    • * a letter from a professional reference if applicant is not a UA student.

    Reference letters should address the applicant's experience and interests in the field of water policy, as well as his/her capacity to succeed at graduate study. Reference letters should be sent separately to Prof. Carl Bauer at the address below.

    All applicants must have a bachelor's degree, with a minimum Grade Point Average of 3.0 (B), or the equivalent.

    Please mail your application materials to:

    • Professor Carl Bauer
    • Graduate Certificate in Water Policy
    • Department of Geography and Regional Development
    • University of Arizona
    • P.O. Box 210076
    • Tucson, AZ 85721-0076

    In addition, all applicants must register with the appropriate administrative unit of the University of Arizona as one of the following:

    (1) UA Graduate Students

    • Applicants who are currently enrolled in the UA graduate programs in either Geography and Regional Development or Soil, Water, and Environmental Science must submit a Change of Program form to the Graduate College.
    • Applicants who are currently enrolled in other UA graduate or professional programs must apply through Graduate Admissions. There is a $50.00 application fee.

    (2) Working Professionals

    • Applicants who are not currently enrolled at the UA and who want to earn the Water Policy Certificate separate from a graduate or professional degree must also apply through Graduate Admissions.
    • For help with the registration process, we recommend that working professionals contact the UA Continuing Education & Academic Outreach Registration Department, or call (520) 621-7724.

    Note about deadlines: The GCWP does not have fixed deadlines for applications, but students must meet UA Graduate Admissions deadlines to be registered for a particular semester.
